With the Bruins struggling to score goals in their first round playoff series against the Capitals, coach Claude Julien shuffled the lines for today’s practice. Daniel Paille shares his thoughts on his jump from the fourth line to the second line. (As told to Dan Duggan)
For me, the way we practice is the way we play so I’m prepared to play with Bergy (Patrice Bergeron) and (Rich) Peverley. I just came in here a bit surprised, but offensively we haven’t been producing and obviously we need a shakeup and a change. For tomorrow, I’m just looking to not change my game at all. I feel that I’ve been strong and my linemates were strong, too. So I’ve just got to play the same way I have been.
I’m going to have to be more aware of who’s out there. With Bergy, he plays against top end guys. It’s going to be more about the defensive game than offense. If I play smart defensively, the offense will come. That’s part of my game and I’m not going to change too much of my game and I don’t want them to change too much because I’ve played with Bergy before and I know how to adapt to his play and same for him with me. I consider Peverley as having the same speed as me so as long as we’re moving we should do really well.
The Bruins face the Capitals in Game 5 of their first round series tomorrow at 3 p.m. The Bruins have a 7-8-2 record in afternoon games this season, but Daniel Paille likes playing in the afternoon. Daniel describes how his pregame routine changes for matinees. (As told to Dan Duggan)
I don’t mind the afternoon games. We’ve played a ton of them throughout the season. You kind of wake up, you eat breakfast and you get ready for a game. By afternoon’s end the game is over so you put all of your energy out for that afternoon because you’ve got a lot more to give because you’re playing so quickly in the day. I think everyone has a little bit more jump than waiting around all day for a night game.
It’s unfortunate that we haven’t played as well in the afternoon. I know I feel really good in the afternoons. I know that we’re usually better than (7-8-2). I’m surprised that’s our record. If that’s the case then obviously we’re going to have to prove people wrong and be better than what our record is. At the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter for us. Every game can change and we’re tied 2-2 and our focus is tomorrow’s game and to see what we can do. It’s an afternoon game so it should help us. And I believe Sunday is an afternoon game, too.
